It's finally time to go! During the following weeks we will have an adventure across the United States with our trustworthy pineapple bag packed with necessities. Come join us as we see this beautiful country of ours as senior citizens not the 20 year olds we were many years ago.
A hotel had this as their only breakfast. This would not be my preference for breakfast. I put the yogurt in captain’s oatmeal. He ate the nature bars as two snacks. I’m still taking one bite at a time out of the honey bun. Those things are loaded with sugar and fat🙄
Captain is napping. He stays away from sugar when driving. I try not to indulge very often. If Krispy Kreme, make it last!
It is apple time again, folks! One a day..they say.
He is awake and chomping an apple. Time to go again!
Note: We made it all the way to Warrenton, Missouri, past St. Louis.
We are staying in a Holiday Inn Express tonight.
Original:
Captain feels he can make it. We are passing by a lot of land that was devastated by floods many times.
Did you ever wonder what the arches in St. Louis mean? There is a long history attached to it.
Standing 630 feet above the Mississippi River is St. Louis’s most iconic landmark: the Gateway Arch. Architecturally and historically, the Arch is an engineering triumph and also serves to commemorate Thomas Jefferson, the Louisiana Purchase and pioneers settling the United States.
It is a work of art.
We are stopped at a rest stop in Grayville, Illinois. Past flooding can be noticed on the sides of the roads that has marshland
There were lots of mosquitoes at this rest stop in two thousand nineteen, but that was in April.
A feline friend stopped by🥰
St. Louis 131 miles, will make it, now, for a hotel…
Great Subway roast beef and ham. Friendly folks here in Ferdinand, Indiana. First time change comes over the hill, central time. I was able to remind the great little worker at one of the fast foods to use his wet floor sign. These places are also short of help, just like all the way across the nation.
Let’s don’t forget to pray for our nation😇
Captain dug right in!
After that wonderful sub sandwich, we are on the road again!
Eighty seven degrees here, a little warm. Just a little humid. We’re supposed to have rain, as we move farther west.
Beautiful skies right now, and as we went through Louisville, Kentucky, some beautifull scenery. Ohio River is majestic. I can’t imagine the pioneers crossing it!
We remember this as we grow along. HE always takes care of us.
Let’s back up and look at the food we had last night at Cracker Barrel. If you already saw it on your version, just look again😁
Snuck that in🥸
We’re on some mighty long roads. Captain was just entertaining me with his songs.
The captain and navigator stopped in this really cute town, and got some sustenance for our journey. Crackers, cheese, apples, zero soda, plus we’ve got water and orange juice. I bought a lemon moon pie, and they don’t taste like they used to, although I have never had lemon before.
That beautiful Pink Lady apple is riding alone on our navigation equipment in captain’s truck. He is eating on his carefully, as he driveso down a country road. This one is my treat later. Below you will find Mount Vernon’s fall decoration for their really sweet little town. This navigator had fun taking pictures.
I snuck in pictures that I took at the rest stop on the way.
I really did take those pictures with my little S twenty two ultra smartphone.
Did I mention that Mount Vernon, Kentucky was very friendly?
So, we’re now cruising on down the road on our way to the next adventure, meeting new folks, seeing new places, having another snack. Frito-Lay Munchies, now hiking a ride on instruments, to be “munched” on soon😁
You all do not forget about us. And I will tune into your devices soon!
Hopefully submitted by the navigator, also known as Southern Bound, and Pineapple Bag Travels.
Looks like we might be going to have some rain folks. I hope they leave the lightning in South Carolina, Sis! Plus, all the rattlesnakes.
We’ll run into those critters soon enough, w)hen we hit the Western states, and maybe in between. I do not need to tell you what they look like😟
Captain is tired, we’re looking for a hotel. Over and out.
One hour later…
Found a beautiful Hampton Inn in Bardstown, Kentucky.
Eating at Cracker Barrel, delighted to do this again! They have so many on entrees, One can never get bored.
I am having meatloaf, and the Captain is having corn-crusted catfish. We ordered hush puppies also 😋 Plenty of unsweet ice tea. I got a side of country gravy with my meatloaf, yip-pee! The server is so sweet. A sweet kentucky voice, miss that in Oregon.
Please take time to appreciate your roots, from whence you came.
Hey folks, this is real food, this is not copied off the internet!
The server later brought me country gravy to go with my meatloaf, and I ate chow chow and onion with my turnip greens.
The captain had catfish. The hush puppies go really good.
I wonder how they got that name. Look it up and comment on my blog.
No rain yet! The storm clouds have actually disappeared.
The waffle house in knoxville, east had five servers on duty. Always smiles on their faces, and calling out the orders. It takes some oomph to be a server, or a cook, at Waffle House. Beautiful breakfast sandwiches! We had it wrapped to go, and it still looked pretty when we opened it.
This friendly person at Waffle House allowed me to take his photo, he will follow my blog.
What great folks in Tennessee! Fellow Travelers all looking for good food and rest.
Look at this beautiful sky on this special Sunday morning, God is good! Take time to say a Blessing, for all you have been given😇
Cumberland Gap National Historical Park lies along the borders of Kentucky, Tennessee and Virginia. Pinnacle Overlook has views of Cumberland Gap, a pass in the Cumberland Mountains once used by pioneers headed west. In Gap Cave are stalagmites and bats. Park trails include the Ridge Trail
SUCH BEAUTY AND CHARACTER IN THIS STATE!
We Have Just entered Kentucky, Folks!
Come along for the ride! I will now go and check out this beautiful rest stop we have stopped at. We’re starting to see just a few possible storm clouds in the sky.
The Captain and I started our day with Relatives and Friends at the Famous Cracker Barrel in Powdersville, South Carolina.
What a Time of Fellowship and Camaraderie! Great southern cuisine was enjoyed by all. I was so happy to be able to share my opened chow chow with my sweet cousin, instead of having to toss. No refrigeration in vehicle for our 2700 mile plus road trip back to Oregon.
The service was great at Cracker Barrel! Expertly prepared entrees were served.
We had such wonderful gravy, grits, meatloaf, pintos, chicken, biscuits, greens, sweet and unsweet tea, eggs, hash brown casserole…it goes on and on…
A highlight was to see cousins and a friend of my sister, who had fostered a 35+ year friendship. Here is another special friend of us all! Permission to post from her. J…., thanks for the gifts, smiles, and always Goodwill. Those intangible gifts CANNOT BE PURCHASED! We ended our hoopla and soiree’ with shared photos, texts, and phone numbers. Thank you ladies for the big S.C. welcome home!
MOVING RIGHT ALONG, FOLKS! Let’s visit Waffle House N. Pleasantburg for our Supper!
A sweet husband and wife team did not miss a note, as they cooked and served a well-prepared breakfast for supper, yum. For their great service, I put $5 in the jukebox, and entertained us all.
Hey you all, someone SAMPLED MY SUPPER! Maybe, they will give me the rest (pretty please). Long story short, I got to eat the rest!
Their coffee, tea, and other drinks, are fresh and thirst-quenching. Thanks Bobby Joe! What a team!
Looking Ahead, Meeting with Sister and Hubby at Waffle House in Travelers Rest on Last Visit Day…Traveling on to Knoxville
Join us tomorrow for more fun, and by the way, enjoy the beauty of Crepe Myrtles still in bloom!
Backing up a bit, while at Waffle House tonight, I also saw someone order a waffle, they wanted it crunchy and brown! So delectable and appetizing! Maybe I can have one with my special sister in the am, yum!
Goodnight! Pleasant dreams.

Immaculate Rest Stop. Fall colors starting.
Clyde, N.C.
Knoxville Coming up for Night’s Stay.
KEEP TUNED YOU ALL!
What is Knoxville famous for?
Knoxville’s known as the Cradle of Country Music, due to its role in nurturing the early careers of Roy Acuff, Chet Atkins, Flatt & Scruggs, Dolly Parton, and several other major figures. However, Knoxville is also home to the oldest symphony orchestra in the South.
I’m just having fun throwing in some interesting pictures😁
